Every dog is different. Individual allergies and sensitivities are common — always introduce new foods in small amounts and watch for adverse reactions. This site is for informational purposes only and is not veterinary advice. Always consult your vet.
The Full Picture
Raisins are dried grapes and are equally toxic to dogs. In fact, because they are concentrated, even smaller amounts can be dangerous. Raisins can cause acute kidney failure in dogs. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and decreased urination. All types of raisins and sultanas are dangerous, including those found in trail mix, baked goods (hot cross buns, fruit cake, mince pies), and cereals. Contact your vet or emergency poison control immediately if your dog eats raisins.
What You Should Know
Raisins should be kept well away from dogs. If your dog has eaten raisins, watch for symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or loss of appetite. In an emergency, contact your veterinarian or an animal poison helpline straight away.
